Abingdon: Old Gaol, Bridge Street

The gaol was built in 1803-4 and closed in 1868 (the county of Berkshire operated two gaols, here and at Reading, and eventually decided that this was a waste of money, concentrating operations at Reading). Following closure the building became a grain store, then slum dwellings. It has now been converted into high-quality flats.
