The start of a footpath from Thirlby to Sutton under Whitestonecliffe. Low down to the left is a metal plaque which reads 'This oak was planted in memory of Alf Wight by his friends in Thirlby 1996' - Alf Wight of course being better known as James Herriot. Photographers advice; only take this route after several months of drought as horrors lie ahead.
