Originally a Free Church school, this was designed by John Dick Peddie and Charles John Hood Kinnear of Edinburgh and built in 1865. Unusually, although the estimated cost was between £1500 and £2000, the final figure was under £1000. It incorporated one room measuring 44 feet by 22 feet, another 15 feet square, and accommodation for the schoolmaster.
