Carved stone plaque by the A67, in parish of Gainford (Teesdale District), Main Road, set in wall, near ground level, on South side of road, left of field gate. Erected by the Stockton & Barnard Castle Turnpike Trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- TO LONDON 242 MILES DURHAM 22 DARLINGTON 8 STAINDROP 4 BARNARD CASTLE 8 Milestone Society National ID: DU_DABC08.
