A 10ft bronzed wood mermaid statue was sculpted by local artist Steve Hayward to mark the Highland Year of Culture in 2007, but was badly damaged by storms in 2012. The present sculpture (in bronze) was constructed in 2014. The Mermaid of the North is part of the area’s Seaboard Sculpture Trail.
