On 20th May 1965, a sleeper express from Glasgow Central to Kensington Olympia was partially derailed here, caused by a broken rail by water troughs NE of Hest Bank station. Eleven people suffered minor injuries but there were no fatalities. See http://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/documents/MoT_HestBank1965.pdf for the report on the incident. Two sleeping cars completely off the track, seen from the road nearby.
