Statue of King Alfred, Market Place, Wantage

The statue was created by His Serene Highness Count Gleichen, was presented to the town by the MP for Berkshire Colonel R Loyd Lindsay VC and was unveiled by Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales on 14 July 1877. It was twice vandalised, in 2007 and 2008. It has been restored and cleaned given its pristine condition.
