The Cock Inn (formerly owned by Enterprise Inns plc, now Ei Group plc) > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1514730 - > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5519741 - which had three changes of operators since 2014, would now seem to be closed for good. An application lodged with Norwich City Council proposes to demolish part of the building with the aim to convert it into a dwelling. The developers say that the site is no longer viable as a pub, and also want to build eight three-bedroom homes on the site of the pub’s car park. The first mention of the property as a public house was made in the second half of the 18th century when Benjamin Blake, who was a carpenter, was the licensee from 1760-1764. In March 1908 the pub was damaged when the mill across the road caught fire, and sparks landed on the thatched roof. In the spring of 1984 it was refurbished and further work was carried out in the summer of 1996, when an extension was also added.
