The far side of a winding hole, i.e. an enlargement in which narrow boats and barges can be turned. This is a view from Marsh Bridge, Avon Street at the junction of the western end of Feeder Road and Avon Street. Feeder Canal runs from Netham Lock behind the photographer - where access to the (tidal) River Avon can be gained - to this part of Bristol, where it connects to the Floating Harbour (off to the right and not visible in this picture). The hot-air balloons were part of Bristol's 39th International Balloon Festival. Also visible are the roof of Temple Meads railway station and the tower and spire of St Mary’s Church Redcliffe.
