The year 1882 is engraved on the wall above the first floor window. The business's website states that Down & Son Ltd was established in Exmouth’s Exeter Road in 1900 by John Henry Down. The business later moved to its present location here at 22 Chapel Street which has been part of the Magnolia Shopping Centre since 1976.
