Grade II Listed 17th century building with 18th century front. Historic England claim this to be the former Castle Inn. Ignoring the Cross at 2 Church Street the only 'beer' establishment I can locate mentioned in Church Street before 1937 is "Smith James, dining rooms & beer retailer, Church st" in 1900. A Castle Inn was in New Street until 1927 or later and appears in Church Street at the current No.28 in 1937 until its licence was transferred to the Mariner's Arms on March 31st 1950. It seems extremely unlikely the current No.20 was ever the Castle Inn.
