A long time ago Thurleigh airfield was being considered as an alternative third London airport alongside Stansted. The local campaign against this proposal included using the black painted traditional Bedfordshire barns for the slogan Thurleigh NO! NO! NO! Amazingly at least one barn, there may be others, still has the legible slogan. With permission from the owner I was able to lean over the gate and take a picture. I would suggest that this was around the early 1970's but happy to be corrected.
