This image shows the north portal. The tunnel, which has a towpath all through it, is wide enough for one boat only, and is 191 yards (about 175 metres) long. Since the 1960s, there appear to be a lot of references to this as Whitehouse Tunnel and sometimes Whitehouses Tunnel. Maybe someone local can send me some information about this.
