The genus Lysimachia, which comprises about 180 species, is named after the Macedonian king of Thrace, Lysimachus, and native to central Europe and Turkey. Due to its ornamental value it is frequently grown in gardens where it is inclined to spreading and can hence become invasive. Contact may cause skin irritation of an allergic reaction.
