"Pure Beautiful Inventive Football" is part of a famous quote made by Manager Jock Stein in the aftermath of Celtic's European Cup final victory against twice winners F.C. Internazionale Milano (Inter Milan) in Lisbon in 1967. The full quote is... "There is not a prouder man on God's Earth than me at this moment. Winning was important, but it was the way that we won that has filled me with satisfaction. "We did it by playing football; pure, beautiful, inventive football. There was not a negative thought in our heads". What Mr Stein did not mention at the time is that all the players were born within 30 miles of this spot.
