Bartestree Convent

The convent was founded in 1863 by Robert Biddulph Phillips of Longworth and closed in 1992. The disused Roman Catholic Church of St James, adjacent to the convent, was built to the design of Edward Welby Pugin and is grade II listed. The site has been converted into residential accommodation. Here it is viewed across a field of oilseed rape. I last photographed this three years ago when building work was taking place Image
