Peebles-shire War Memorial

The monument commemorates 451 citizens of the county of Peebles who lost their lives during the First World War. The design by the splendidly named Burnett Napier Henderson Orphoot FRIBA (1880 - 1964), with contributions by several others, was the winner in an open competition in 1919, and the memorial was unveiled on 22 October 1922 by Field Marshal Earl Haig. The Second World War panels were added in 1949.
