This is a relatively rare example of the Type G postbox, a square variety introduced in the mid-1970s and often, as here, found as a pair sharing a top. It faces the parade of shops which now coincidentally includes Image The collection plate is missing from the right-hand box, revealing the 'next collection' indicator dial which originally would have been set by the postman so that the relevant figure would show through a hole. Nowadays, only the final collection time is advertised, so the modern information plate does away with the hole is no longer included (as per the left-hand plate).
