A wing of Mayward House is on the left. These monumental local authority flats first appear on an OS map of 1951. Before that, from at least the 1870s, there were detached villas here with long rear gardens. It's interesting that these flats are judged to be worth the investment of refurbishment when the more recent Heygate and Aylesbury estates have been or are being demolished and replaced.
