The City of Edinburgh Council is phasing in a city-wide 20 mph speed limit [24/7, which seems rather extreme]. The existing traffic calming policy of pot-holes, degraded road surfaces, speed bumps and chicanes is considered inadequate to keep traffic moving at a safe speed. They are currently putting up signs on 1 February in a zone where the speed limit will not apply until 28 February. The 30 mph sign is at the end of a school entrance 20 mph area [operating when children go to and leave school]. I wonder if they will take it down when it is no longer needed?
