Preston Memorial Hall was built in 1906 (and officially opened on 12 February 1907) to the designs of architect Howard Chatfeild-Clarke, son of Thomas Chatfeild Clarke, who in 1862 built the Unity Church, to which the hall was attached. The church (Unitarian) destroyed in 1940, and subsequently re-built.
