Bradwell "A" Sarcophagus
Introduction
The photograph on this page of Bradwell "A" Sarcophagus by Glyn Baker as part of the Geograph project.
The Geograph project started in 2005 with the aim of publishing, organising and preserving representative images for every square kilometre of Great Britain, Ireland and the Isle of Man.
There are currently over 7.5m images from over 14,400 individuals and you can help contribute to the project by visiting https://www.geograph.org.uk

This edifice shows the folly of nuclear fission as a practical power source. Image only generated power from 1962-2002 the Sarcophagus will stand for about 100 more years before the materials of the reactors are safe to remove. The high level waste shipped to Sellafield will need to be kept safe for more than twice as long as humans have been farming. I believe that it is supreme arrogance to think our civilisation will last that long. If current plans come to fruition Bradwell B will repeat the same folly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradwell_nuclear_power_station#Future_plans . On a brighter note Scientists at Bristol University are developing "Diamond Batteries" made partly from radioactive carbon from the reactor moderator cores see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_battery . These batteries will not be able to produce much current but they could probably power your watch for about 5000 years! (estimated power output over this period for a typical cell would be 4.4kW hours).
