The pub sign depicts an electric tram. Rochdale Corporation operated trams past this pub on the long Rochdale to Bacup route until about 1931, but the tram depicted on the sign is not a Rochdale car, as these never carried route numbers. The artist probably used a photograph of a Bradford tram when painting the sign.
