An Independent chapel

Upton Cheyney has its own United Reformed Church, dating from 1834. The local populous were resolved to found it and it has been the only place of worship. At the rear, a small schoolroom was added to provide education in the days before legislation for schools. Today, it has suffered from the typical problems of falling congregations (perhaps in single figures at times) and the loss of revenue to maintain the fabric. Consequently, the URC moved to close it but the villagers responded with vigour. The church, a small and relatively unchanged example, has remained open to worshippers and is now offering other village facilities.
