This is plaque number 3 on the Greenock Town Trail; see Image for context. "Site of the Renfrewshire Bank (the building with the horseshoe stair). Behind the church was Greenock Prison. Here in 1820 a peaceful radical demonstration was fired on by militia, causing loss of life."
