The River Axe rises near Wookey Hole in the east, flows under Clewer bridge here, and then heads for the open seas between Uphill and Brean Down. Hillside Farm occupies a lush site at Clewer, complete with a large garden that includes apple trees. The tiny village of Clewer is barely above river level, but is actually on a small promontory along Brimscombe Hill, a heady 28m above sea level. That's pretty lofty for these parts!
