This is the less photographed, western end of High Street which leads to the site of the former cement works. In the 1969 edition of 'West Kent and The weald' John Newman wrote "Of course it is the cement works that have prevented Greenhithe from ever becoming residential...The cement dust is everywhere". Not so today on either count, however.
