This was created in the winter of 2005/06 to help alleviate the silt problem created in the River Hiraethlyn. This catches debris and silt that washes into the river before it reaches the ponds and waterfall and will help to reduce potential flood damage to the garden. Aproximately 500 tons of silt is extracted twice a year which otherwise would cause damage.
