The front entrance of Loughborough Endowed Schools. This collective consists of four private, independent and selective schools, three of which: Loughborough Grammar School (LGS), an all-boys' school; Loughborough High School (LHS), an all-girls' school and Fairfield Preparatory School, a co-educational preparatory school all share the same campus. In addition, Our Lady's Convent School joined the group in September 2015. Loughborough Grammar School (LGS) is named after Thomas Burton, a prosperous Loughborough wool merchant who left money to pay priests to pray for his soul after his death in 1495; these priests went on to found the school that would become LGS. The school was originally situated in the town centre but in 1852 the Trustees of the Burton Charity rebuilt it on its present large site known as the Burton Walks. This building and the headmaster's and boarding house, together with the lodge, were designed by John Morris and Charles Hebson of Lambeth. They are now Grade II-listed.
