Darnton House Nursing Home Image was built on the site of the original Tameside General Hospital Image on Darnton Road by L&M Healthcare as a luxury care home, and was also intended to act as a pioneering "Transitional Care Unit" for local Tameside Hospital, where part of the home would be used by the hospital for patients too unwell to be discharged, but no longer requiring hospital care. Following an inspection by the Care Quality Commissioners in February 2016 the home was put into "special measures". In July 2016 Tameside Hospital Trust took over the 3rd floor of the building as the Stamford Unit.
