The text on the blue plaque at Mossley Market Place Image reads MOSSLEY TOWN TEAM 2015 During World War One MOSSLEY MARKET PLACE which has been a centre of community life since the early 1800s, was the start and end point for processions both in support of the Blue Cross League animal charity which cared for wounded war horses and for the celebration of the peace. Here on 14th July 1917, Private Ernest Sykes VC was welcomed back to Mossley by the Mayor and over 3000 residents SPONSORED BY IAN McCONNELL VETERINARY PRACTICE
