View NE from St Peters Road bridge, north of the main station (London Road), on the ex-Midland main line from London St Pancras to the North and a major junction. The Depot, including the coaling-plant prominent in the foreground, had been entirely rebuilt in 1944-45: in 1954 it had an allocation of 74 (all steam):- 11 4-6-0, 12 4-4-0, 7 2-8-0, 2 2-6-0, 27 0-6-0, 1 4-4-2T, 5 2-6-4T, 3 2-6-2T, 6 0-6-0T.
