The Cornish Mining website states that the Mining Exchange in Alma Place, where local dealing took place amongst mine captains, dates from 1880. The building underlines Redruth's role as the commercial capital of Cornish mining, and stands as a reminder of Cornwall's world-renowned mining prowess throughout the 19th century. The building was Grade II listed in 1989.
