The present chapel only dates from 1868 (architect W H Crossland), but replaced a 12th century hospital (hostel) chapel. The building is listed grade 2 (list entry 1173650). Rather than having a Vicar, the Dean of Ripon Cathedral is "Master" of the Chapel and it functions as a daughter church to the Cathedral.
