Attonburn, at Bowmont Water near Kelso, was one of the Scottish Youth Hostels Association's pre-war hostels. It was located in the row of terraced cottages to the left of the distinctive large barn and Attonburn Farmhouse in this 2002 view. The hostel opened on 1st July 1933 and closed in 1938. Please contact if you have any tales to tell of old hostels like this.
