The property in this view has several panel arrays on outbuildings and a further free-standing one just out of view on the left. A Labour government thought it a good idea to subsidise solar panel installations (continued but at a reduced rate by subsequent governments). They do this by giving a feed-in tariff on electricity produced. The larger the property, the greater the potential income. All very well, but it is the property owners who benefit at the expense of the non-property owning rest, who must cover the cost of the tariff in higher electricity charges. I'm not a socialist but this doesn't seem to be fair to me. All very well to generate electricity by means of solar panels but they should stand on their own in the open market, without the benefit of subsidies.
