Doline near Yealand Manor

A glance at the contours hereabouts would suggest that there is a small knoll here whereas the reality is a closed depression. This is a feature known as a doline and is produced by solution of the limestone bedrock by weakly acidic rainwater. This example is one of four in a line, the largest of which is Image to the north west.
