The tunnel, which has a towpath all through it, is wide enough for one boat only, and is 191 yards (about 175 metres) long. This view is looking north, near the middle of the tunnel. Since the 1960s, there appear to be a lot of references to this as Whitehouse Tunnel and sometimes Whitehouses Tunnel. Maybe someone local can send me some information about this. The Llangollen Canal links Hurleston Junction (Shropshire Union Canal) to Llantysilio via Wrenbury, Whitchurch, Ellesmere, Chirk, Trevor, and Llangollen, a distance of 46 miles (74 kilometres). There are 21 locks.
