I joined West Midlands Police in 1999 with the initial part of my service being a Response Officer in Wolverhampton. After being promoted I then became a custody Sergeant at Sandwell. Since being promoted I have worked on a number of policing areas and across a number of roles including Neighbourhood Task Force in Birmingham East. I have also led the partnerships team at Sandwell and supervised a large city centre team in Wolverhampton.

I have lots of experience around the challenges facing communities across the West Midlands and I am a passionate advocate of neighbourhood policing and the huge difference our officers can make to communities dealing with crime and anti -social behaviour. I have worked mostly in neighbourhood roles, working with our partners and communities to problem solve.

I have only very recently taken responsibility for the Dudley East constituency and am committed to ensuring we provide an accessible service to our community that listens and acts.

My staff work from three sites at Halesowen, Sedgley and Dudley and cover the following wards:

Sedgley, Coseley, Upper Gornal, Gornal and Woodsetton covering the north of the Borough.
Castle and Priory and St James covering Dudley Town Centre
St Thomas covering Kates Hill, Netherton, Quarry Bank and Dudley Wood and
Halesowen, Hayley Green, Cradley and Wollescote and Belle Vale.

Priorities

23 Sep 2024

Tackling ASB incidents in hot spot areas and demand locations including local parks and open spaces

Response (23 Sep 2024)

* Conducting regular high visibility patrols in the area engaging with members of the community, local businesses, partner agencies and neighbourhood watch groups as well as promoting education and guidance towards persistent offenders.

* Establishing and developing a ‘Business Watch’ Closed WM Now Group based around demand locations to improve communication between stakeholders and local businesses in order to gain vital community intelligence.

* Utilising civil interventions such as issuing ASB Warning Letters, Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, Parental Contracts, Dispersal Orders/Notices, Community Protection Formal Warnings/Notices and Public Space Protection Orders in order to identify and protect problem locations from persistent offenders and apply the above interventions with an offender management ethos in mind

* Organising regular police surgeries and community events with local councillors, community groups, partner agencies and other key stakeholders in order to promote trust and confidence within our communities with a focused approach and collective direction

* Implementing ‘Action Days’ using resources from multiple teams in order to patrol and prevent ASB in demand locations at peak demand times.
Engage with local schools to ensure behaviour is flagged both in and outside of school and two-way communication is on-going between schools, the police and any other agency involved to ensure current known offenders are targeted and potential future offenders can be approached through preventative interventions and mentoring.

* Signposting and safeguarding individuals who need additional help and support and engaging with Social Services and Social Workers to ensure any young or vulnerable person has a support network that promotes a positive change in behaviour.

Tackling ASB incidents in hot spot areas and identifying demand locations incorporating local parks and open spaces

Response (13 Nov 2024)

Following the recent Community Forum, we have been conducting regular high visibility patrols within prominent high demand locations within the Dudley North area, engaging with local businesses and key individual network groups, whilst dealing with problematic and persistent offenders. We have recently issued a number of ASB Warning Letters, Community Protection Notices (CPNs) and Community Protection Formal Warnings Notices (CPWs) and currently committed with our partner agencies to also deal with persistent offenders from a civil intervention perspective. We hold regular police surgeries and community events with local councillors, community groups, partner agencies and other key stakeholders in order to promote trust and confidence within our communities with a focused approach and collective direction. We have been working with our local School Intervention Prevention Officers to ensure adverse behaviour is identified and addressed both in and outside of school and there is clear dialogue and communication between schools, the police and any other agency involved to ensure current known offenders are highlighted and potential future offenders can be approached and educated appropriately through preventative interventions and mentoring.

Promote Road Safety and Speed Enforcement within the Dudley North area

Response (13 Nov 2024)

We have recently conducted a number of Community Speedwatch and Pro-Laser Traffic Operations in prominent and previous demand locations, whereby we have also recently conducted a Multi-Agency Road Safety Operation (MARSO) in Sedgley and Coseley, along with a Fatal Four Force Traffic Operation in the locations of Upper Gornal/Woodsetton, Sedgley and Lower Gornal, which has resulted in a number of vehicle seizures for no insurance and tax offences as well as enforcement notices issued for offences including use of mobile phones, speeding and defective/unroadworthy vehicle offences to name a few. We are currently working alongside Dudley Council ASB and Out of Hours Officers to deal with the issues of quad and off-road motorcycles being driving dangerously within our communities and open spaces, which has resulted in further enforcement through S59 Warning Notices and Enforcement Notices (TP010 forms) being issued as well as identifying problematic and persistent offenders to be dealt with via a civil tenancy enforcement action. We are currently working alongside our external partner agencies to identify further offence locations to implement traffic calming measures and potential traffic/speed.

13 Nov 2024

Addressing the issues and concerns from local businesses and residents in tackling business crime and shop thefts

Response (13 Nov 2024)

This was one of the issues that was highlighted during the recent Dudley North Community Forum, whereby there were vehement concerns from local businesses and resident in regards to the increase of business crime and shop theft offences. The Dudley North Neighbourhood Policing Team have incorporated a multi-faceted proactive approach, which has resulted in a number of arrests of prolific shop theft offenders, who have been subsequently charged (and remanded in custody in some cases) for persistent offending. We have achieved these positive results by adopting a cohesive approach with local businesses through various initiatives as well as enlisting the support of other neighbourhood policing teams to deal with transient shop theft offenders. We conduct regular high visibility patrols of high demand and repeat locations, whilst engaging with local business owners to obtain further community intelligence and provide reassurance within these areas. We have also conducted a number of Trading Standards Operations within the Dudley North area (Coseley/Woodsetton/Sedgley) that have resulted in prosecution and civil enforcement, as well as the seizure of the illegal substances and counterfeit products, along with assisting Trading Standards from an evidential standpoint to implement closure orders and the recovery and seizure of items obtained via criminal proceedings.
