For situation of the plaque see Image . Inscribed as follows : City of Carlisle Electricity Undertaking - This stone was laid by Alderman J.R. Potts J.P. - Chairman of Electricity Committee - 18th May 1942 . The power station was expanded during the 1940s, having been in operation since 1927 (Carlisle Encyclopaedia http://www.carlisleshistory.co.uk/page27.htm ). It was closed in 1985, and most of the buildings were demolished later in the 1980s.
