Colwyn Bay Men's Shed

Colwyn Bay Men's Shed (or The Colwyn Shed) is set back 25 metres from the east side of Rhiw Road. The Shed's website states that a Men's Shed is a community project which aims to promote men's health and wellbeing through social interaction and practical activity particularly in retirement. This usually includes a communal workshop where men can come together to work on individual or community projects, in a safe and friendly environment. Each shed is different and will reflect the interests of those using it but the emphasis is on practical activity. It is well known that men often suffer from shorter and less meaningful lives after retirement partly because of the lack of social connections. A Community Workshop (Men's Shed) can help to improve life by providing a place where a man can go to interact with his peers and once more participate in useful activity. The Older People's Commissioner for Wales acknowledges that more Men's Sheds are desperately needed in Wales with older men here being the loneliest people in the UK. There are currently (2016) more than a hundred Men's Sheds in the UK either already established or in the planning stage but relatively few in North Wales. The nearest Shed to this one in Colwyn Bay is the Rhyl Men's Shed. There are also Sheds either already established or in the beginning stages in Llandudno, Denbigh, Prestatyn, Llanrwst and Blaenau Ffestiniog, with others at the planning stage.
