The view along the south side of the viaduct from the NW end. This section of the former Great Northern Railway was a comparative latecomer, with the line between Denholme and Cullingworth opening to passenger traffic in the spring of 1884. The final section to Keighley was delayed until the November of that year. The route was dubbed 'The Alpine Line' due to the many steep gradients, tunnels and viaducts that were necessary as part of its construction. A good example of Victorian railway madness.
