Ex-LNER class A3 60103 Flying Scotsman sets off for Carlisle, after taking over from an electric loco. This was its first revenue-earning duty on the main line following an extensive and expensive (£4.2m) overhaul; hence the crowds. The loco is sporting a wartime black livery (or undercoat).
