This is a view from Windyknowe Road up the drive to the former hospital. The building was originally a mansion house owned by Robert Sanderson, skin traders, of Galashiels. It was acquired in 1933 by Selkirk County Council and adapted for the reception of the chronic sick from the county and from this it earned the name “Poor House”. In March 1973 it had 6 wards with a complement of 31 beds. The long stay geriatric hospital was closed in November 1987 when 30 patients were transferred to the new Borders General Hospital in Melrose. The building was demolished and a private housing scheme now occupies the former hospital grounds.
