Memorial. Captain James Cook's ships drew water from this well before setting sail in 1780. Sir John Franklin's ships Erebus and Terror also used water from this well before leaving for the arctic world and the failed search for the North-West Passage in 1845. It was sealed back in 1931 but later reopened with a protective glass.
