Vehicles enter the hotel car park from Eastgate Street through a pend*. The view to the southeast (right) is Image *A Scottish word which the 1959 edition of Chambers Dictionary defines as a vaulted passage or a vaulted entrance to a passageway. There seems to be no equivalent in English or for this arrangement in England. I've used the term in a more general way to mean a thoroughfare oversailed by the upper floor of a building. Used earlier by Colin Smith in Image nearby.
