The dwellings themselves originated as philanthropic housing in Victorian times. The name also applies to the pathway which runs between the two rows of cottages - thus linking St Leonard's Road with Upper Richmond Road West (by way of the Waitrose car park). To the best of my knowledge not one of the cottages possesses a back garden. Instead, they have front gardens of a generous size, many of them planted up in luxuriant style. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2727843
