Some of the symbols on this 18th century stone have weathered away but part of a winged soul survives representing the human spirit rising to await the day of judgement, a symbol of immortality. The death’s head skull and crossed femur bones are symbols of mortality and the pincers are a symbol of trade indicating that this is likely to be the grave of a blacksmith.
