Heavy machinery has been needed to clear woodland on the steep hillside around St Michael's chapel - see images at http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=59014367 - and this is where it must have gained access to one of the tracks, though I missed the actual transfer of equipment from road level to track level. Red Devon soil is revealed. On the left are a bus shelter and traffic lights on the A3022 Newton Road.
