A gateway feature commissioned by East Bedlington Parish Council which stands at the foot of the path (bridleway status) which climbs up the Dene from Furnace Bridge to Spring Park, Bedlington. It commemorates the historical significance of the Bedlington Engine and Iron Works which was in production from 1736 to 1867. A speciality of the Works was the development and manufacture of malleable steel rail which helped shape the future of rail travel around the world.
